Hobart College climbing wall is open to the public every Wednesday evening 6.00 to 8.00pm. There are nine top ropes covering about twenty routes of varying grades. Cost is $5.00 plus a once off $5 membership to Sport Climbing Australia to cover insurance. The gym is located opposite the tennis courts on the Mt Nelson campus.     Due to a complaint from a local commercial indoor climbing operation the Hobart College climbing wall is no longer open to the public on Wednesday evenings.

    Just curious if the climbing wall at Hobart College has been reopened to the public.

      There appears to be enough interest to warrant starting this up again. The main obstacle is insurance as the college will not cover public use. We can no longer use Sport Climbing Australia’s umbrella coverage. We need to cover all the bases so that the “man in Bathurst Street” has no comeback. I’ll look into it & report back here.
