To Beard Strokers and Ipod Kids,

Re Geryon, PB etc., Well done heroes and legends, good to see wilderness climbing with due epics and suffering is not dead.

As to blogs they can be fun to read or boring when there is too much self glorification administered.

However I did find the Geryon one entertaining. It’s about time there were a few more beards and long hair around again.

  1. awesome photos mate! great to have so many people sharing stories without all the superlatives!!!

  2. Hi Phil, I take it you did a new route on PB back in the day then? I was under the impression that Steve Monks had done the only new route there.

Hi Ross, No Steve Monks wasn't the first, we spent a few days in there, camping on the summit and did some climbs. Phil

      1. Did you come in via the Southcoast Track or up Moonlight Ridge?

Along the Southern Ranges, it's quicker. Which way did you go in? Can you mark your climbing route on this pic along with Steve Monk's if you can work it out? I am trying to recall exactly where we climbed in 1986.

  3. I have a photo that I took from New River Lagoon that I can mark up with the topo line, I would have trouble doing it on this photo. I can guess where Steve's route goes from my photo as what I think is the arete his route follows is more obvious from front on. I have to say it looks more impressive from front on... We came along the South Coast Track from Melaleuca, then out to Cockle Creek.

Of course, cliffs always look steeper front on. And when you climb them they feel steep too.
