Yeah I was sick of the old banner - another half hour spent on thesarvo when i should have been doing something else...
Other new stuff that I've been working on:
And I'm about two thirds through writing an iPhone app that will let you have all the guides offline on your phone.
One question - would people pay for the iPhone app? I'm thinking of putting it in the app store for $1.99 - purely to help pay for the hosting on this site (which is also where any profit on the printed guides goes btw).

Awesome effort Nerm, the climbing community would still be in teh technology dark ages if it wasn't for all you work.
Sounds like a great idea. We're allways forgetting the guide book! I'm entirely naive to the world of the iphone, once the app was downloaded would the phone need a network connection to access it? Claire has one but its with optus so she doesn't have coverage at any of the crags.
Would be very cool if the iphone guide used the gps and maps to help locate problems and climbs!

I'm aiming so that the app download contains all the guides, so it works without network. The makes it usable on an iPod Touch as well. The second part is getting it to update automatically.
Definitely want to integrate with the iphone maps app and gps - maybe in version 2

I'd definitely pay $1.99 for a guidebook app. Automatic updates would be a great addition!

There's a lot of good data there on http://www.climb.org.au - not sure if they've got their licensing / copyright sorted yet though

Hey Jon, I'd pay for an iPhone app for sure. Nice work on all the guides by the way.

For those who want a sneak preview, point your iPhone browser at

This is still pretty slow as its still loading everything across the net, next step is wrapping this up in an app and packing up all the content.
The 3 main things to improve are to fix the glitches when loading, speeding up the scrolling, so it doesnt take ages to flick through the guide, and making the images thumbnails which go to a zoomed in view when touched.

That would be awesome Jon... I'd pay for that without hesitation... lead the world!

I've got a basic iPhone app running, which gives offline access to all the guides.
But its got serious performance problems on the really big pages which cause the phone to lock up. I've either got to find a way around this, or split the pages up into sections somehow.
So another few weeks

Well version 1.0 has been submitted to the iPhone App Store - it usually takes about a week for them to approve or reject it

Thesarvo banner's not to appealing today.

You haven't replied to my emails yet Jake. If you are going to criticise my guidebooks saying they are rushed jobs with some mistakes, then reply with some substance and show me the mistakes so I can correct them.
regards,
Gerry

Gerry,
I am sorry to inform you but I have not received an email from you.

Well Jake. can you please explain why you think the Ben guide update was a rushed job, and also why you thought that our other guides were a rushed job too. Also outline in detail the mistakes that were made so I can correct it. thanks
