Unfortunately a small community bouldering wall run by some local climbers (totally non profit) has been asked to leave its current home due to planning 'use' restrictions in the building. It was brought to the council's attention by The Climbing Edge, which was unfortunate as we had advised The Climbing Edge of our plans and they said they were supportive of a low-key wall for keen climbers and admitted that as a business their main focus was school groups.
We are now seeking a commercial building with good height (4m +) and reasonable room to have a wall run and used by keen climbers. Though the initial concept was a small group of friends using a free space in a friend's home (much like most backyard woodies) we now have to ramp things up in scale to have enough funds to jump through all the council hoops plus get insurance. In the long term this new model will serve more climbers better as a good second facility in Hobart.
Please email hobartbouldering@gmail.com if you know of a space or have any suggestions.
