Hi Every One
Im just checking some info here with regards to accessing the candle stick.
Can you rap from the same Bolts that you access the  Totem Pole with?  If so will a 60 m rope get you down and then allow you enough to do the swim?
Because when you do the Totem Pole there aint much left on a 60m rope!
When I did the Candle Stick years ago (before the mainland bolts) you use to build anchor 10meters lower.
This use to work on a 60m rope.

Cheers

  1. the way i remember it is that from those bolts a 50m rope will stretch to get you to the ledge but then it will spring up the cliff  once unloaded. a 60m rope gets down to the ledge then but is not enough to also use it to swim across with.  although probably only too short by 20m or so (don't quote me).

  2. Thats what I think because a 60m static is just enough for the totem pole.  A 60m dynamic is ok because it stretches.
    So
The description needs up dating on thesarvo as well as in Gerrys guide.

I think you need a 70m for the candle stick or alternately join your lead line to the rap line and make the swim.  Obviously as you get higher it won't be necessary to have the ropes connected.

  3. We fixed a 60m dynamic to the Tote rap anchors and there was enough rope left over to get to the bolts on the other side. We were doing the route that goes up the corner for a couple of pitches, further left of the original route, about grade 18 or so. A bit of shenanigans to pull the rap line along on the 3rd pitch where you traverse along the ridge to get to the anchors that you end up rigging the tyrolean from, but nothing too serious.

Fun day out, especially if you can convince someone else to do the swim!

  4. Thanks for that info
