AMERICAN CLIMBERS WANT TO CLIMB TODAY AT MT. WELLINGTON
Last Changed by Giha Hoag, Jan 03, 2010 08:22

Hello! My partner and I are here from America and have been traveling and climbing through Tassie and the mainland for a few weeks. This is our last day in Tassie and we'd love to climb Mt. Wellington. Unfortunately we only have one 60m rope and we've read and heard that 2 ropes are required for rappels. If anyone would like to meet up to climb today we'd be psyched to climb w/a local who knows the Mt. Wellington climbs. We are staying at a motel in Glenorchy. We have wireless internet so we can check this thread frequently. Hope to hear from someone. Good day! Gina and Tom

Gear Stolen From Ben Lomond!
Last Changed by Niels Tietze, Jan 14, 2010 15:23

ON Tuesday(Jan 12th), after going into town for a rest day, 7 cams were stolen out of my tent by persons unknown. The description of the gear is as follows: 2 C-3's sizes 1 and 2, 2 Camalot cams sizes 3 and 4, and lastly 3 omega link cams sizes .5, .75, and 2.
I am absolutely gutted from this happening and am blown away that it could occur in such a remote location. Our tent was hidden far away behind the Carra Villa Hut but obviously this wasn't hidden well enough. I've been 3 months on the road and this totally derails my future climbing plans. Bummed.

Please everyone be cautious about where you leave your gear and keep your eyes open if you see someone trying to pawn off any link cams on the internet.
If anyone has any leads or comes accross this gear for sale on E-bay or elsewhere, please contact me at nt0828@westminstercollege.edu

Safe climbing,
Niels T.

In Search of a Climbing Guru and-or Companion
Last Changed by Steve Christie, Jan 14, 2010 16:34
Labels: climbing, companion, partner

G'day! I'm Steve, 22, currently living on the North West Coast of Tas. I'm a complete beginner to climbing and looking for a knowledgeable person/s willing to teach me how to climb as well as becoming a potential climbing companion. My experience includes a little bouldering & clambering - as encountered when bushwalking and peak bagging. I have no experience with ropes other than using them years ago on school trips. I've always had a bit of an interest in climbing but never had the opportunity to give it a go. The book 'World Climbing: Images From The Edge' (awesome book btw) is what gave me the inspiration and a push to get started. I hope to gain the skills that will allow me to become a proficient climber and will allow me to pursue my other great interest - mountaineering. A bit more info; I have currently have no equipment, I have a car and I'm willing to drive anywhere in the state for some climbing, although I only have the weekends for this. Most weekends are fine unless I've got a walk on with the 'ol bushwalking club. If you wanna help me out either with teaching me the ropes or you're looking for a climbing companion sent me an email at steve87c(at)gmail(dot)com.

Hope to see you soon!

Steve

Bolt removed on Denison Crag
Last Changed by Gerry Narkowicz, Jan 15, 2010 09:59

While climbing Aqualung at Denison Crag I noticed a bolt on the face to the left. The bolt has now been removed. A reminder that Ben Lomond is a bolt free zone.

Mt. Wellington Guide Book Found + Toothcare at Cape Raul
Last Changed by John Fischer, Jan 22, 2010 09:39

Guide book found on second pitch of Lone Stranger. While climbing this classic organ pipes GRADE 19, I discovered a slightly weathered but still readable new edition Mt Wellington guide book. The name on the title page is Tony Mckenny. I assume it must belong to some local climber. I would be happy to return this book for a small finders fee... Perhaps a cold beverage.

Also found: One Colgate toothbrush at the base of Pole Dancer. Very well loved hold brush. Please provide me with the color and I will gladly hand over the brush!

See ya out there!

Mt Wellington Guide Book Update
Last Changed by Tony McKenny, Jan 22, 2010 14:39

It is now about 3 years since we published the Guide and it is probably a good time to undertake a brief review. If you have any corrections, comments on grades or stars or updated route info, please post them on the Forum or let me, Jon Nermut, Al Adams, Phil Robinson or Dave Humphries know the next time you catch up with one of us. Many thanks.
