If you are looking to climb Rysavy Ridge over the next little while it would be highly advisable to arrive in a vehicle you feel comfortable driving up the road and across the paddock in. Currently thistles cover the paddock and are waist to head high. Additionally, the buzzies are in full spate. Even with gaiters on, the walk through the paddock would be an unpleasant beginning to an otherwise excellent day out.

  1. This is from Tony McKenny, also re access to Mt Roland / Rysavy:

Steve Brown has asked for climbers to phone him first for permission to cross his paddocks to the base of the cliffs. His phone number has changed and is now 0408441945. Climbers are asked to park outside the farm gates, and to restrict their climbing, if at all possible, to between 8am and 8pm, to minimise disruption to the tenants living in the farm. Apparently the dogs fire up and wake up the little girl that lives there.

He also makes the point that more and more climbers are coming down in the dark - the Ridge was climbed virtually every day over Christmas/new year and about every other day through the summer. The last lot, 2 Germans, got down at 1.30 am, even though Steve had warned them about the access issues.

I'm sorry to hear that Steve wants people to park outside the farm gates. We tried to contact him the day before we went up and couldn't get him, so we drove up the evening before to give a newcomer to the route a closer view and to see if we could have a chat with Steve. He wasn't home but the woman who has the baby was, and said it was okay for us to drive up the road to get to the start of the track.
Maybe the next local climbers going up to do Rysavy should contact Steve in advance and see if he would like the climbing community to provide a sign at the entrance to his property with his requirements re access.
