I have removed the Frenchmans Cap and Mt Geryon guides due to Wild Publications threatening legal action for breach of copyright.

This is interesting in light of Doug Bruce's post on the ownership of the Mt Wellington guide.

  1. It's a shame that Baxter is taking this line. According to Gerry who has discussed this issue with Glenn Tempest, as long as descriptions are rewritten - even only slightly - it is new work and thereby not subject to copywrite. I think the key is not to simply copy stuff verbatim holus bolus, e.g. photocopy/scan etc. The whole electronic intellectual property thing is a bit messy in this regard, especially when you consider that, like Al with the Mt Wellington guide, Steve Bunton gleaned his info from old print info, in his case a combination of CCT and VCC circulars. Maybe a way of keeping some of the stuff up would be to pick the eyes out: you can use up to 10% verbatim without any liability and Baxter et al can get stuffed.
