Hi all

A few of us are heading down to climb at Mt Wellington around 8 - 12 Jan and I was wondering if anyone could recommend a nice quiet camping grounds. I know that you can bush camp at Mt Wellington but I thought we might check out some camping with showers

Cheers
Lara

  1. Camping near the Pipes is a real problem - there are few - actually, none - campsites as the terrain is steep and covered in boulders. A bivi among the rocks may be as good as it gets. The best alternative is to book into a commercial campsite but they in turn are usually heavily used during the tourist season - check the Tourism Tasmania web site (http://www.discovertasmania.com/)or google it. Camping lower down at the Springs for example is not allowed and you will probably be moved on quick smart. Sorry not to have any more encouraging advice, maybe others have a local site they can recommend.

      Thanks guys for the info

  2. I'd say camping with showers is an oxymoron, besides that time of year if u need to klean up then find a place to go swimming!!yay! Although just pop into the uni gym in sandybay if u can't live with outa shower for a few days, no charge, just don't ask first.
Somewhere around Ridgeway would be the best place for stealth camping, easy especially if u don't mind packing up everymorning, there is a spot off chimney pot hill rd i reckon would be nice. i can be more specific if you like Lara? alternatively u could stealth bivy right near ur car in the chalet which is an old stone picnic shelter on the side of the rd up mt wellington. there is water but no toilet there, and u really would have to be discreet or face a butt kicking from the mountain rangers or whatever we r s'posed to call them
let me know if u want more beta.
    have fun!

  3. we stayed at the caravan park in Snug. It's got clean showers, a good camp kitchen, plenty of tent sites, $20 per night for 2 ppl.
About 20 mins drive to the Pipes each day. We couldn't find anything closer but its not a bad place to stay (very quiet, on the water).
