My wife & I are going to be in Tasmania next week and are hoping to do some climbing.  Can anyone recommend a (good) gear shop in Hobart?  Place to get carrot bolt hangers, maps, some beta perhaps etc.  Google search shows "Jolly Swagman" but that seems to be more camping oriented & some climbing gym(s) which usually don't have much gear for sale (at least in the US).

Thanks!

  1. The Map Centre is your best place for maps. You can buy climbing gear at either the Jolly Swagman, Mountain Designs or Mountain Creek. All (including the Map Centre) are within spitting distance of each other near the intersection of Elizabeth and Bathurst streets. If you only wanted bolt hangers for your stay here in Tassie I have a bunch you could borrow but you are unlikely to need them here in Tassie anyway, as most of the bolted routes worth doing either have expansion bolts with hangers or are equipped with U bolts.

Thank you very much for the info!  Been on Tasmania for about 5 days now.  Based on a handful of climbs we've done, the hangers are no longer a requirement (thank you also for your very kind loan offer).  Best regards, radek.
