Due to popular demand, and Al & Tony finally giving in, I re-ordered The Organ Pipes guide last night to be L to R.

Note that the old R to L version is still available for the time being at Mt Wellington Guide 2007 however this will no longer be maintained.

I did the first bit using a script then have done a first pass at fixing stuff that was wrong.

It now needs thorough proof reading to pick up all the broken stuff, eg out of order text and climbs or stuff that doesn't read correctly any more.

Please post anything you pick up here and I will fix it.

I'm not going to open up editing access to all (yet) as the next bit of editing and fixing needs to be controlled or we will end up with a mess. However I would very much appreciate proof reading and corrections posted here by anybody who has the time and effort, and I will make the corrections.

Hopefully in the next few month's you'll see a bunch of new photo topos.

We'll then make further changes to the organisation of the guide if the new formalised tracks and signage go in so that the guide pages match the new access tracks.

  1. Excellent work Jon. Looking forward to further developments re topos, etc.

  2. today is a great day!

    1. From Hamlet by Shakespeare.... Horatio is questioning Hamlet why the Tasmanian's list their routes in the guide from East to West (that is Ye Olde English for R to L)....

      HORATIO
      Is it a custom?

      HAMLET
      Ay, marry, is't:
But to my mind, though I am native here

And to the manner born, it is a custom
More honour'd in the breach than the observance.
This heavy-headed revel east and west
Makes us traduced and tax'd of other nations:

They clepe us drunkards, and with swinish phrase
Soil our addition; and indeed it takes
From our achievements, though perform'd at height,
The pith and marrow of our attribute.

Good to see we finally got out of the medieval ages! Long live the L to R Renaissance!

      1. He doth quoth much, my Liege. But doth he offer his noble services to help the cause of truth and rightousness? Me thinks not.... but we may live to the full in hope.

        1. Allow me to retort:

Just cleaned up the image to describe the routes L to R. Also it may be better to move blind faith from TGTEATUB down a bit to the Ozy butt section since it is marked on the topo there. Broken Buttress section is good. Also, is this photo edit good enough? I can do the same job with the rest of the Jackson topos as the routes listed are out order and difficult to follow. Its quick and dirty but takes me about 5 minutes a topo. Cheerio.

          1. Topos are being totally redone so wouldn't worry about those.

I've moved blind faith so that it is in the right order now. This is what needs to be looked at in the whole guide.

Climbs that are out of order.

            Ignore topos...

              Stuff that needs careful reading:

              • that the actual order of the buttresses and climbs makes sense
              • that the topos are in the right place
              • that the little bits of text in between climbs are right eg "the next 4 climbs start blah" has to be moved to a different place and often reworded. "These first two climbs start..." are now the last climbs in a section. Etc.
              • that the climb descriptions read well and correctly when reading in sequence. It's really easy to write a guide using "the next climb L of blah.." or "start 20m L of xyz", with a reorder all of these now reference the next climb rather than the previous which sucks to read

I think I've got the majority of the first three, but havent started on the climb descriptions themselves
