There is an article in the Merc today:
A man broke several bones after jumping from a cliff at Coles Bay yesterday.
Tasmania Police said the 23-year old tried to jump from a cliff into the water at White Water Wall. The man jumped 18m, hit a rock and fell into the water.
The Police Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called about 4.20pm.
A paramedic and police rescue crew were lowered to the scene and treated the man before winching him into the helicopter.
Police said the after-dark rescue was only possible because of new night-vision goggles. The man is in the Royal Hobart Hospital in a serious condition.
Anyone got any details? Was it a climber?

purely speculating:
i know they usually get something wrong, so my guess it wasnt actually on whitewater wall itself. maybe a jump off the block gone wrong??? but thats a hard one to stuff up! light fingered madison might be about the right height and is the only other place i could think of. unless he slipped and they missed that bit.
either way a good reminder to not get complacent on that white granite, especially places like white stack! i hope he makes a speedy recovery!!
best wishes

Seems that he did the jump into the water from 10m (presumably around Zawn Rock area) and then thought he would have a go at the 20 odd metre jump. A miscalculation resulted in one of his arms striking a rock very hard and basically shattering most of his upper arm. Lucky not to be killed, drowned etc. Good luck with it all and here's hoping for a full recovery.
