A serious access precedent is currently unfolding in QLD that could well affect other areas in Australia without serious support from climbers around Australia (we need numbers to give strength to the voice).
In a nutshell, a new sport climbing area was developed (QLD's steepest crag), it was in a spot no other users would ever see or know about, and a very unique site for climbing. National Parks found out about the site and fined 4 key climbers $375 each, they also have ordered them to remove all bolts by Aug 31st or face a $6000 fine each!! If this is not challenged by climbers Australia-wide why wouldn't they move this approach to other sites.
The GOAL of the QLD Climbers Alliance is:
"to gain formal recognition of the needs of climbers by major landmanagers in QLD."
Please go to the site for more info. and register your support if you are concerned.

Not the point, Adz ...
I say good on the National Parks for doing their job, of preserving the geo-morphologically significant sites in Australia...wether those sites r obscure or not ...
Locking ppl in a cellar for years where others '...would (n)ever see or know about ...' , doesn't make it right, eh ...

I would like to see National Parks take the same action against the ppl who desecrated the once magnificent sweep of granite , now known as the Star Factory ...
Adz... you should be encouraging the MORAL-development of the new generation ... not just their tick-list-consumerism...
Cheers
Sally

I say climb and climb like never before

yeh its a pretty full on development. No reason that this place has drawn more attention, I think it was just unlucky for the guys involved and a particular person in NP that has pushed it further than before.
There has just been a positive development for the climbers tho, NP have withdrawn the request to pull the bolts, they realised that it may put the climbers at risk in doing the bolt pulling, so they have withdrawn due to liability risk. Good outcome! Tho the personal fines still stand, and its now uncertain as to whether climbing will be allowed, so it will be good to nut out a long term solution with the land managers there.
